Stone Case | 3800m ² Sungang Office Center Lobby

Shenzhen is a representative city at the forefront of China’s rapid economic and technological development. From the outside, the entire city is filled with a sense of future, and technology permeates every corner of social life. As a former small commodity and logistics distribution center, Sungang District is now at the center of transformation between the past and future, technology and tradition.

Sungang Center is a newly built landmark building in the area. We hope that the design of the lobby and display area reflects this duality and unity: high-tech, or high touch.

The main material at the bottom of the lobby is cave stone, which represents our natural need for touch. The ground, the lower part of the wall, and the reception desk are connected by smooth, matte cave stones; Calm and simple, inspiring people to naturally touch emotions. A sculpturally long table stands in front of it, with a recessed design on one side. Cave stones evoke traditional emotions and symbolize the future, classic and timeless; It brings a very intuitive sensory experience, giving a natural and original background color to the space compared to the lighting ceiling filled with a sense of technology above.

In contrast, we use high-tech mechatronic integrated ceilings to outline the upper part of the lobby. The curved ceiling made of aluminum panels refracts strong light back into the lobby, giving the space even and soft light. The aluminum alloy curved ceiling creates a rhythm that exhibits characteristics different from the smoothness and understatement of the cave stone. The curved ceiling extends all the way to the exterior ceiling of the building, blurring the interior and exterior boundaries. Cave stone and aluminum alloy each form their own “small universe”, which is simply distinguished by sight line, with opposition and unity.

The adjacent exhibition hall also continues the tone of the cave stone, replacing the aluminum alloy ceiling with texture paint. A protruding arc forms the center of the view, focusing on the project model below.

Finally, we have created a bright, clear, and open office lobby, which is a classic and powerful metaphor for the eternal duality of heaviness and lightness, material and energy, constantly evolving technological products, and intangible spiritual heritage.
